Long Beach Tummy Tuck

The tummy tuck procedure can be an excellent choice for people who have lost a large amount of weight and have an unsightly bulge with lose saggy skin in their abdominal region that does not recede with exercise and diet.  Women who have been pregnant sometimes benefit from this operation as well. The tummy tuck is also called abdominoplasty, and should be performed by a qualified surgeon who is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.

The Procedure For Tummy Tuck

A tummy tuck operation will remove the excess fat and skin in the abdominal region, and some of the underlying muscles that have been stretched out will be tightened up and repositioned.  Because of this, the procedure is a major surgery and general anesthetic is usually used.  The operation itself can take from two to five hours, and is performed in an operating room.  For people who do not need a full muscle repositioning, there is an alternate procedure called the Mini Tummy tuck.  This is when only the skin and belly fat are removed with liposuction and excess skin removal, and the abdominal muscles are left intact.  This procedure is preferred in cases where a woman has had children and has some abdominal bulge, and the bulge can be corrected the tummy flattened without muscle tightening.  The incision is smaller, and operating and recovery time is reduced compared to that of the full tummy tuck operation.  Recovery time for the full tummy tuck operation is around three weeks, and some people stay in the hospital for 2 to 3 days following surgery.

Who Should Have A Tummy Tuck?

Abdoninoplasty is not a good solution for everyone.  Consultation with a board-certified doctor is the best way to determine if it is right for you.  Very obese people are not good candidates for this surgery, and doctors recommend that they lose some weight before considering this surgery.  Because it is a major procedure, there are some risks involved as with any surgery such as infection, insufficient healing, bleeding, and anesthesia risks.  It is important to follow your doctor’s instructions both before and after surgery in order to minimize risks.

Getting The Best Results From Your Tummy Tuck

The final results from your tummy tuck surgery will be a flattened abdomen and a slimmer look.  This final look may take several months post-op to achieve.  There are exercises that are recommended after about 4 weeks after the operation, which should be continued for about 8 weeks or longer. There also may be scars that may take up to nine months to become small and unnoticeable, but sometimes they disappear over time.  Certain topical skin products can assist with scar healing as well.
